This design is a reproduction of a vintage piece from the early 1950s, characterized by its luxurious construction, with minimal plain areas and the entire back fully covered in embroidery. The white-based map of Japan and the colorful threads of the motifs stand out against the black body, while the green ribbing and red-and-white rope piping add distinctive accents to this remarkable piece. The reversible side features a grand design with a golden dragon soaring against a blue body that evokes a clear sky. In contrast to the front side, this side is marked by its exquisite embroidery, which makes excellent use of negative space for a perfect balance. The dragon and tiger on the chest share the same design as the front, but a closer look reveals different uses of thread colors. This reflects the vintage technique where the same "embroidery pattern" was used on both sides, with the embroidery craftsmen at the time adjusting the colors to match the fabric, showcasing their meticulous attention to detail. ■TAILOR TOYO SOUVENIR JACKET スーベニアジャケット（スカジャン）とは戦後間もない頃、米兵が日本駐留の記念としてオリエンタルな柄（鷲・虎・龍）や所属していた部隊、基地名などを自分たちのジャケットに刺繍したのが始まりである。 その後、スカジャンは土産物として商品化され、各地のPX（Post Exchangeの略で米軍基地内の売店の通称）で販売されるようになった。 当時、このスカジャンをはじめとした衣料品を米軍基地へ納入していたのが、東洋エンタープライズの前身の会社「港商商会」であり、スカジャンの生産が全盛期となった1950年代には納入シェアの95パーセントを占めるほどであった。 また、港商が納入していた衣料品にはアロハシャツも含まれていたが、 柄には「鷲・虎・龍」をモチーフにしたオリエンタルな柄なども含まれており、 スカジャンやアロハシャツは日本特有のオリエンタルなデザインが用いられた衣料品だと言うことが伺える。 港商から始まり半世紀以上スーベニアジャケットを作り続けてきた「テーラー東洋」。 一過性のブームではなく、文化として継承し続けているこのブランドこそが、オリジナルである。 The souvenir jacket, commonly known as the sukajyan in Japan, originated during the early days of post World War II. The jackets featured a variety of oriental designs (eagle,tiger,dragon) and/or the servicemen’s very own designs of their unit or base names, etc. Later, souvenir jackets became commercialized and sold through Post Exchanges (PX; commissaries within the US army bases) throughout Japan. Kosho & Co., the predecessor of Toyo Enterprise, was the main suppliers of the souvenir jackets and other garments for U.S. bases at the time. By the 1950’s, during its peak, Kosho & Co. had acquired 95% of entire souvenir jacket market. Rooting back from Kosho & Co., Tailor Toyo has been the leading brand of creating sukajyan for over half a decade. Sukajyan by Tailor Toyo is not merely a temporary trend, but a representation of the culture that has been passed down for generations and the essence of originality and authenticity.
